Video: Dave Ramsey on new Bankruptcy Law
Jackson's Junction: Video Blogging - we provide (video), you decide!
On the Wall St. Journal on CNBC, Dave Ramsey lays out the case for why he is not in favor of the new bankruptcy law.
Ramsey: New bill is "horrible".
Ramsey: "No one except for me and Ted Kennedy are standing up for the consumer. I can't believe we're on the same side."
UPDATE: We have changed the format of the videos, hopefully to better serve you, the viewer. Please let me know if you find the new format better/worse/same for you. Thank you all for your support and feedback.
And most importantly, thank you Instapundit! < yeah, he's great!
FYI: In case you missed it Chad Condit(son of gary Condit) lost it tonight on At Large with geraldo Rivera, stating "You put our troops in harms way." A classic (Live) shouting match erupted. Johnny Dollars Place has the VIDEO.

Thanks for the video!

Hmmm, does the ages old question, "who's ox is getting gored now?" fill the bill for Dave Ramsey's whining on CNBC?
I can't help but wonder if one of Ramsey's businesses will take a hit when this new bankruptcy law finally takes affect?
Would you like to be personally trained by Dave's team to help others gain control of their financial future? Dave's Certified Counselor Training will equip you with the knowledge and tools to counsel others one-on-one with confidence

I have never heard of this guy before, and it could be true that his ox is being gored, but I do agree with him on the personal responsibility issue. I think he's sincere about that. Most of society's problems can be traced back to personal responsibility; abortion is certainly one and a biggie of mine.

Dave will certainly NOT be out of business should this pass. Dave is doing just fine. He is on a mission to get people out of debt and knows very well the problems with the credit industry.
I facilitate his Financial Peace University course and it is awesome. You should take it. It is worth millions of dollars to you.

Kitty posts: "I do agree with him on the personal responsibility issue. I think he's sincere about that. Most of society's problems can be traced back to personal responsibility"
Yes, I'm in total agreement with this comment by Kitty... Totally on target and it covers a myriad of problems...

Someone named, "Russell" (@March 14, 2005 11:12 AM) posted: "I facilitate his Financial Peace University course and it is awesome. You should take it. It is worth millions of dollars to you"...
Hmmm, is that a free course? When these new bankruptcy laws go into effect what service then will the graduates of this course have to offer?

Ref Geraldo putting troops in harms way - wasn't it in the Gulf he did that, not Afghanistan?
Not that Geraldo was going to say "I did not put the troops in harms way in Afghanistan, I put them in harm's way in Iraq".
Posted by: Jay | March 14, 2005 at 12:30 PM
No, it is not a free course. Why should it be? Have you ever benefited from a free course? We don't sell anything. We teach how to order you financial life to win. The bankruptcy law will have no impact on us but to make it more important to do what we teach.

Go listen for a while and you will understand better.
Or read this. http://www.daveramsey.com/media/pdf/fpu_babysteps.pdf
So simple, so hard.

Russell replies: "No, it is not a free course. Why should it be? Have you ever benefited from a free course? We don't sell anything. We teach how to order you financial life to win. The bankruptcy law will have no impact on us but to make it more important to do what we teach"...
I never said the course should be, I was just asking...
Regarding having benefited from a free course, the answer is a resounding yes!...
Probably one of the very best courses that this college post-grad ever took and cost absolutely nothing in the way of tuition was a course in orienteering which has proved more useful than most everything else that was taught in various courses...
Hmmm, so your course isn't free, eh? Understandable but then this particular passage in your reply is questionable: "We don't sell anything. We teach how to order you financial life to win"...
So you are selling something but you just can't bring yourself to admitting in public...
After looking at the Ramsey file titled, "Baby Steps" it sounds like Ramsey and his course are about as useful as Erhard's est...
Well good luck with that scam...

As someone who took DR's courses and helped facilitate it, I paid off nearly $78k in debt in 22 months, have no debt but my house, and on my way to a substantial retirement account. I'm pretty happy with that "useless scam", especially considering I was the reluctant spouse, complaining, "It's just not possible to live without debt these days".
The main product that DR sells is information (there are one on one counseling sessions [where bankruptcy is almost always discouraged btw], books, tapes etc. as well). He doesn't sell investments, insurance or any financial instruments. If you take his advice, he doesn't receive a higher commission. None of his products would be effected by the bankruptcy bill, he doesn't accept credit cards as payment, he is not an attorney, has not renewed his real estate/financial liscenses so as not to have any conflicts of interest.
Personally, I'm not sure where I stand on the bill. As someone who leans economically libertarian, it's not the bank's fault you are an idiot who spent more than they could pay. But at the same time I can't help but think businesses who send out what amount to legal contracts to dogs and cats is a little bit fraudulent.
I may or may not eventually agree with DR's stance, but he's got no financial dog in this fight as a conflict of interest.
And as someone who's mind isn't already made up, arguements centering around a your opponents motives and not the consequences have never been particularly convincing. Saying Bill Gates only opposes theft so he can protect his billions from us peons living in slums isn't a valid arguement against theft being a crime.

Hey, Russ - your cynicism is off-target here, and your deliberate obtuseness is frankly, offputting.
I have NEVER heard Dave Ramsey advocate bankruptcy. He doesn't refer people to bankruptcy attorneys. He makes nothing off bankruptcy. If anything, this bill will help him because people who are desperate to PAY OFF their bills will be taking his course.
You can call Dave Ramsey what you want - you can say he's selling a product, FPU. That's all true- and completely irrelevant.
As for the comparison with est. Are you on drugs? Stop borrowing money - save $1,000. Pay off your lowest credit card first, then the next, then the next. Don't borrow money to buy a car. Save 2 - 3 months of salary. Pay off your house. What the hell does that have in common with est? There's no bladder control component to FPU! There's no Zen, no mind control. In fact, if you're not a credit whore, there is very little controversy in the program at all. And thousands of people have been helped - not in a dreamy, undefined way. We're talking measurable balance-sheet help here.
You need some more information - listen to his show or borrow one of his books from the library. Your assertions fly in the face of the facts and you make yourself look like a fool to the grown-ups.

Dear Russ,
Dave Ramsey is to be commended. He has changed my life along with thousands of others. I have never heard any one more "common sense" driven than Mr. Ramsey!!! It's sooo simple. There really are only three rules to his plan! 1. STOP BORROWING MONEY!!!!! 2. INCREASE YOR INCOME!!!! 3. SPEND LESS!!!!! How simple is that! You sound like one of those IDIOTS that sues McDonald's for making them fat! SELF CONTROL and PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY are paramount! Get off your bum, go to work, and STOP WHINING!!!

I realize that I'm late to this conversation, (just back-tracking a search hit to my own site), but Russ, please... Stop wearing your "post-grad" mantle like a badge of honor. You're spouting ignorance and close-mindedness like a lawn sprinkler on a hot summer afternoon. Nobody's trying to force anything on you - keep your $80,000 student loan, your $550 per month car payment and all your credit card debt, because those of us who have had our eyes opened by Dave are proving just how smart WE are. And we don't need a student loan payment for the rest of our lives to prove it. Wisdom does sometimes come from somewhere OTHER than a college professor and if you ever make it out into the real world maybe you'll realize that.
