Just out of curiosity I've been tuning into Air America Radio this week - a break from my usual diet of Bill Bennet, Laura Ingraham, and Rush. Mostly I'm curious to see what the Lefts take on this issue is - and what it seems like they're doing is say that the Republicans are pandering to a "Tiny Minority" of right wing extremists in the country.

Again here we go with the detachment from reality. It's not their ideas that are messed up - it's their message. It's not mainstream America that's voting them out of office - it's the "Tiny Minority" of right wing extremists. When are these dingbats going to wake up?

This case is a sticky wicket to the most normal, rational, thoughtful, politically moderate individual. There are serious red flags concerning her husbands behavior, and if you have not seen this video...

http://web.tampabay.rr.com/ccb/videos/Terri_Mum.rm

...then you should. If honestly believe that Terry is "Brain Dead" after seeing it you're in a bigger vegetative state than she is.

There's NO ONE out there on either side of the political ailse arguing against living wills - which is what the loonies on the left are trying to make this out to be. What's at issue is the validity and integrity of her Husbands word - and if there is a reasonable doubt about it, which there is, then it's plain common sense morality to choose life over death.

It doesn't take a right wing extremist to see the truth in this.

Should have mentioned the bone scan.... but alas...I hate the image of Mr. Randall but I love hearing Michael being called a liar...Hope Terri lives and then it can all be shown and proven....Oh and by the way for all the people who want to lump this into the religious right wing fanatics... I am NOT a Christian......

Whatever your view on Terri Schiavo's condition, right to live, or the merits of the case this attack by Randall Terry is unconsionable and un-Christian. While I personally believe in Terri's right to live, the personal attacks on Michael and ESPECIALLY Judge Greer by the Schindlers represent the heigth of uncontained, thoughtless wrath.

Judge Greer is by all accounts one of the more thoughtful, conservative, and compassionate judges on the bench today. To my knowledge of the case I deem it to be wrong, but to personally attack a man as thorough, morally upstanding, and reasoned as Greer is the basest of all human emotions.

We should all be ashamed that in trying to assert our rights to life we have villified these people and hurt them because they hold different beliefs. They are acting in consience, not of malace, and to wish for their destruction is to defy the very God who gave us all life. We should all be mollified that our supposed spokesman is a person as vile, shameless, and hurtful as Randall Terry.

If these are the lengths to which the Schindler's are willing to go, I can appreciate their pain, but they are quite un-Christian in their actions and deeds.

hey ithink that terri,s parentsare wonderful and they love there daughter very much iam a mom of there iwould do the same for my children, and no one has the right to take alife only the lord jesus christ,if terri does not have her wishes down some one needs to help her her mom ,and dad are trying to help ,terri,s husband souns like he needs hishead exzamed ,marrige is for better or worst not mess around on his wife ,he should be by his wifes side not his misterss

Can I take that disengenuous "MR" comment apart? I have learned that whenever you read a liberal's trolled message, just toss out the qualifyers ("I personally believe in Terri's right to live," "... the very God Who gave us all life...", "I appreciate their pain...") because it's meant to sweeten the otherwise vile comment. It is a crock, because the gist of it repeats the typical leftist screed: The Judges Are Always Smarter Than The Public.

And STOP using the Christian faith's phrasiology as your own, you coward. If you're so sure about this death sentence, then try dehydrating your own water-filled cranium.

I've had it with you people... and to think I used to be like you. Thank GOD for Michael Savage.

MR,

Starving a helpless person to death doesn't qualify Judge Greer as being morally upstanding. I didn't hear Randall Terry say anything that was abusive or untrue. If you agree that the judge and Michael Schiavo are wrong and that Schiavo has dealt in untruth, then you, too, believe them to have scammed the public and Schiavo to be a liar.

Morally upstanding people aren't afraid of the truth; and they're never afraid of a living person eating. There are some plain truths in this case that should be clear to anyone who digs into the details. Stating that a person who denies and refutes the truth is a liar is not villification; it's truth.

May God have mercy on us all.

I certainly see "red flags" when it comes to Terri's "husband's" behavior! I'm thinking that he wants her dead just WAY too much......WHY? Why did he discontinue her rehabilitation therapies years ago? Does he NOT want her to be able to talk? At the very least, that is very neglectful in my opinion.

Did Terri have fractures after this alleged "collapse" in 1990? If so, was there any investigation of these....any reasons given?

For all intents and purposes, Mike is in a common-law marriage, and has been for years. Couldn't this be considered to be bigamy? Surely there is SOME angle there, since he's obviously abandoned his marriage with Terri, except when fighting to have her be killed. Isn't there SOME way that Terri could be granted a divorce from him.....by proxy, or something??

I've never been to a blog site before, so I apologize if my posting isn't proper....this case just has me extremely upset. A feeding tube is NOT the same as being kept alive by being on a respirator. It's totally probable that Terri would be able to eat and swallow if her "husband" would not have discontinued the therapies for rehabilitation! Plus....I've been a victim of domestic abuse, and there is really something about this whole situation that is disturbing me deeply. Something just isn't right, and I don't know why so many affadavits supportive of Terri have simply been disregarded by Judge Greer. I wonder if this info he is disregarding is even in the records that have supposedly been reviewed by others? Something just isn't right here.

Oh, I'm a Social Worker, and have had 3 years of RN School, plus have worked with clients & patients who ARE in a PVS. Just from viewing videos of Terri, I would say that she is not in a PVS. She appears to respond to specific things.......I just don't see these as "reflexes", as some have stated. If they are "reflexes", then isn't it some coincidence that they just happen to occur when her Mom is speaking to her??? I just wonder how responsive, just how much better she would be if she would have been in therapy? Having worked for the equivalent of DCYFS in my state, I can say that I believe there is a STRONG probability that we would have investigated the husband for neglect when the various therapies were discontinued by him, and that most likely we would have been granted guardianship of the neglected individual by the Court. One Nurse who attended Terri years ago stated that Terri did communicate single words, and was orally ingesting jello. I would put more faith into her daily observations than I would in a Dr. who saw her for only a few minutes, or who simply reviewed a few records. Terri deserves to have the most up to date medical testing available before she is literally killed by withholding water and food.

Sorry for rambling, but I really do not understand this "hold" that Mike Schiavo seems to have on people in high places, and since I instinctively don't trust him, I don't believe at all that he is the least bit interested in fulfilling Terri's wishes. I doubt that she even made that comment to him in the first place. One commentator tonight, maybe Shawn Hannity, said that Mike didn't even come up with this until 7 years into the situation, and that when he was asked by medical staff after the initial "collapse", if he knew what Terri would want, he replied that he had no idea what Terri would want in this situation.

I'm enjoying reading all the posts and viewing the videos that I've not seen. This seems so wrong to me.

Father Sparks,

I totally agree. Quite frankly, Randall Terry should loudly proclaim from the rooftops that Judge Greer is corrupt. It's painfully obvious to anyone with a cursory knowledge of the facts that he reviewed and the facts he threw out.

This is a dark time for America. Lord have mercy indeed.

The Empire Journal has everything on Greer right here:

http://www.theempirejournal.com/0317054%20Greer_Schiavo_articles.htm

If that's a bit too long, here are the more salient points:

1. why hasn't Terri been provided her own legal counsel?

2. when the court appointed guardian ad litem in 1998, lawyer Richard Pearse, recommended to deny petition to starve Terri, and recommended to remove Michael Schiavo as guardian due to conflicts of interest, WHICH MICHAEL SCIAVO TESTIFIED AND ADMITTED TO HIMSELF, why did Judge Greer INSTEAD remove Richard Pearse as guardian ad litem at the petition of Michael Schiavo's lawyer?

3. why did Judge Greer appoint HIMSELF as the legal guardian of Terri Schiavo after that, DESPITE THIS BEING ILLEGAL?

4. why did Judge Greer apparently call upon Dr. Ronald Cranford as his star PVS expert, despite Dr. Cranford's prominence all over the US as an advocate of euthanasia? Isn't he just a little bit too biased to be the objective expert witness?

Jeff,
Kudos again for an extremely informative post.
Why in the world is the media not reporting on Judge Greer's biases, and why aren't they reporting on any of the information that you so concisely presented in your post regarding the Sauer video?
Just curious......what are the chances of the District Attorney, or even the Attorney General in Florida looking into all this and instigating an investigation? I do not know the "connections" that exist between this Judge, the DA's office, AG's office, etc? And....we all know corruptness exists within politics, right?
I don't know whether or not you are in Florida, but if so, does Gov. Bush have the contacts/connections to possibly initiate an investigation of Michael Shiavo going back to Terri's initial "collapse"?
It just seems like there must be SOME avenue available to protect Terri! I am extremely worried about whether or not the US Supreme Court will even hear this case, and time is of essence, as Terri does not have long to live unless she is given nutrients.
I found this site via info I got at terrisfight.org. When I read the "timeline" information on that site, I was just shocked at the continual rulings in favor of Michael, and shocked to see that Judge Greer actually granted an "OK" for Michael to use the money he was given specifically for the care of Terri, to use for Michael's attorney's fees. Judge Greer seemed to consistently disregard any witnesses that went against his own selected Physician, and even dismissed Terri's Guardian ad litum who reportedly didn't agree with Schiavo's demands. If anyone has any questions as to whether or not Judge Greer has been "biased" in his rulings, you only need to go to terrisfight.org, then click on the "timeline" section........that should clear things right up. I've had a lot of experience with the judicial system in my profession, and I simply have never been around a Judge who demonstrated such a bias or agenda.
I really pray that the State of Florida can come up with some way to intervene QUICKLY, because I'm very worried that the US Supreme Court will either not hear the case, or will adhere to the previous rulings simply to publicly demonstrate confidence in the lower Courts.

unplug the feeding tube and if god wants terri to live she'll start eating

What I would like to know is what you people have against Terri Shiavo that you do not want her soul to leave her worthless mind and body to join her loving father in a most perfect body in heaven? All of you so called christians and God fairing folks out there do not have the faith in the lord to do his will. If Christ is not ready for Terri then she will not die. Why not have faith in Gods plan for Terri? How can you spout God in all of this and then not accept his will? I also wonder how many of you can say you can live in the same fish bowl that Michael Shiavo has lived in and how much of the garbage you are spouting is based on fact and not lies. This is a choise for a husband/wife to make. It should not be up to the president, or the senate to try to interfer yet again with God's will. For God's sake give the woman a little privacy and allow her to die with dignity now.

"unplug the feeding tube and if god wants terri to live she'll start eating"

Yea well, just try and go to the hospice and try and give Terri a glass of water or even an ice chip. You will be arrested before you get to the front door.

Judge Greer has ordered that no one shall give her food or water. The family must go visit her and watch her die.. if they try and give her anything they will be arrested for contempt of court.

Thats why.

can't they petition the court to have michael removed as legal gaurdian not only because he has a girlfriend but two children outside of the marriage? In any court in the nation that should be grounds enough to constitute a divorce (it is called adultery)!!!!!

mike,

what i mean is if god wants her to live why doesn't terri sit and say "can I have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich" or something like that

DW, how can you instantly assume that EVERYONE on the left is pursuing a right-to-die argument in this case? Group everyone you think believes a certain way into a "you people" bucket?

You're absolutely right that there is reasonable doubt about Michael Schiavo's word that Terri preferred to die, and therefore, the only civilized choice is to save her life. But you're way off base thinking this is a liberal vs. conservative issue, and I guess the thing that's the most depressing about your views is that you instantly lump entire groups of people into the same bucket.

I'm a liberal Democrat who believes the Schiavo case is a travesty, that there are a ton of red flags on the husband's and judge's parts, and that if we let her die, there's something seriously wrong with this country. And I'm not the only one. Don't jump to instant judgments, dude. This is nowhere near a liberal vs. conservative issue.

Religious rights:
Amendmen 1 clearly explains that there is separation between church and state that congress shall make no law respecting and establishiment of religion

So i ask you this who says she dosnt have religios rights of course she does ( freedom of religion ) but this decision was made by the state and the church only made things worse by interfering aswell as making them harder

for example the judge who was handling this case was kicked out of his church for making the desicion of terrys tube being removed

Now dosnt the judge have the right to attend church? Arent his rights being violated ? but why did they kick him out? because he made a good decision and decided for terrys feeding tube being removed ?

Michael Schiavo is not killing his wife by removing her tube hes giving her peace !
