Video: Drudge-"I don't appreciate being called a blog"

Jackson's Junction: Video blogging...

Matt Drudge appeared on Washington Journal on C-Span and had a few thoughts on blogs & bloggers.

Drudge: "I don't appreciate being called a blog."

Drudge: " Bloggers should not allow themselves to be called bloggers. It's a big mistake."

Drudge: "..blogger, booger. Whatever they're calling them."

Drudge has so TOTALLY jumped the shark. What a maroon.

What an idiot. Carpenters should not allow themselves to be called carpenters, lawyers should not allow....and so on and on. People seem to be losing all logic.

Hey, I object to being called "people".

He may be a self-important buffoon, but technically he's right. He isn't a blogger. Bloggers write on topics of their choice. He's a 'linker' and conventional reporter. All he does is scan the net for articles and link to them. In addition, he does sniff out real news and reports it on his sight.

I actually think he has got a point. The term blogger when used by the media often means non-official, or fringe opinion...When Inside politics covers the blogosphere it is usually done in a way that shows the viewer the far right and far left opinions without a lot of substance to back it up.

Drudge may be self important sometimes...but I think he is on to something here.

But if you don't call bloggers "bloggers", what do you call them?

Chappy is right. We all know that Drudge is a self-centered asshole ... and he knows it too .. and that is what makes Drudge, well .. Drudge.

I can understand why he is upset - he was basically THE 3rd party news source to go to. And then some people come and trample on his power. But he should realize, that his "power" wouldn't last for ever.

In Drudge's view, as soon as you let the media classify you under some simpy focus group name, you are owned by them. He has said this on his radio show numerous times, call "bloggers" what they are - "journalists." He's right, and the think skinned panic reactions of the "blog" community to any perceived criticism is one of the most annoying things about them.

Thanks for blogging Trey Jackson. Good work. Drudge is a clueless idiot. If he had a clue he'd scrub his worthless website and redesign it as a blog with reader comments. Get a clue Matt Drudge.

I think Trey Jackson will go down in history as one of the great pioneers in the next great phase of blogging, video blogging.

Keep up the good work Trey Jackson.

Not to play the devil's advocate ... but the reason why Drudge's site is the way it is ... is because the format takes up hardly any bandwidth, and provides fast page loads. He gets 9million page views a day .. and I would estimate 1million unique hits .. could you imagine the server resources needed to add an unneeded comment section? Kos gets 400-500k unique hits a day and has 100's (if not over 500) of comments per entry. But another reason is ... Drudge just provides a link .. not an opinion on a matter. Perhaps when he gets his "exclusive" stories .. he could add comments to that .. but he is trying to keep the format, the same.

The only way Drudge can get attention is to be contrary and controversial. He's a failed reporter and a conservatively oriented news Web site that consists primarily of links. He's not a blogger and he should resent being called a blogger because most well-read blogs are well written, which if he were a good writer would raise the level of his site, which, in turn, would lose its appeal to those who want dumbed-down news with a conservative, sensational cast.

Drudge is a waste of time - you can get all the links you want with google, and be more specific.

The Drudge Report is a tasteless sploid.

I've taken to boycotting any "news" site that does not publish unedited comments. Even though they debate the notion strongly, Drudge, Malkin and the rest are the same as the MSM in this regard.

Think about it, the only thing that distingushes the internet from the TeeVee is the ability for two-way communications. It doesn't matter what the information is, what matters is how the information is distributed. Setting up your own "news" site without published comments is just a duplication of the MSM model.

Hm agreed. I don't really like Drudge , for two reasons.

(i) I can't stand the pop ups .. I have great pop up protectors, but somehow his always gets by mine.

(ii) news.google.com or news.yahoo.com provides the same things on his site

But I do like a few things on his site ..

(i) He gets exclusive things sometimes

(ii) and he gets some nutty stories you don't hear elsewhere.

I think those two things is what keeps him as popular as he is.

I don't care what you call yourself - just give me the TRUTH!
