Bill Kristol Buckles
This talk about closing Gitmo is an extraordinary P.R. victory for the terrorists and their allies on the left. Any serious talk of closing the prison is a tacit agreement that the lies about abuse are true. For why else would we close it?
It's not surprising the liberal media, Democrats, and civil rights groups are so eager to have America lose the War on Terror that they have now stooped to bald-faced lies -- becoming our enemies Tokyo Rose. What is inexpressibly disappointing and frightening is the caving of some on the right.
I cannot imagine how much better things would be going if the terrorists were not fueled by our media and liberals. I cannot imagine how hopeless things would look to the enemy if they saw a WWII-style united front in this country. The behavior we're seeing in the mainstream media, Amnesty International, and among some Democrats is traitorous. No longer able beat Bush in the election, the new goal is to humiliate him by losing the war and increase their own fortunes.
And I don't say that lightly. But now they're lying. Gulags and flushed Korans are lies. Not reporting the good news is lying. Dwelling on Abu Ghraib and not 9/11 is propaganda. And now some gutless Conservatives are panicking and falling for it. That is a crack in the dike. This is the slippery slope I've most feared. If we can't stick together in the face of the anti-Americanism and lies coming from the very dregs of our own society-- the war's effectively lost. Not today. Not tomorrow. But the terrorists and Bush understand this is a war of attrition. A war that will last a generation and then some. The loser is the one who tires first.
And how do you wear the other side down? Through propaganda fueled by the drip-drip of deaths. You find the weakness in your enemies armor -- which in our case, is the left -- and you hone in there and wage your war there. And then you let them wear your enemy down for you.
And yesterday, Bill Kristol buckled.
You noticed, too, huh?
I blogged on the mechanism of how the Democrats, aided by the press, lose wars for America.
Democrats think that if Republican voters feel vaguely guilty, they'll vote Republican.
The press, of course, wants to be Woodward and Bernstein all over again.
And ... Americans die because of it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much Trey. During lunch, I saw a snippet of Dick Cheney talking about how shutting down Gitmo is stupid liberal pipe dream.

I watched this yesterday also on FOX. Thank God for Brit Hume who held Kristol's feet to the fire about comparing Gitmo to Abu Ghraib. I was very surprised to here Bill K. fall for the AI's and American left's propaganda that Guantanamo is the same or worse as the incident at Abu Ghraib. What is the level/quality/value of intelligence that these detained enemy combatants give us? Perhaps they should all be killed on the battlefield and therefore make housing them unnecessary. I don't know - just a thought.

Michelle Malkin writes of "The new GOP anti-Gitmo squad...".
