Brean Hancock: A real American Cheerleader
Brean Hancock: From cheerleader to GI Jane
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Be sure to read it all.
This is a great story that I know you will not be seeing on any television channel near you. I read it today in the AJC, and knew immediately it needed to be shared. Why? Because our liberal media chooses not to cover "courageous, patriotic, pro-U.S" stories. Ask yourself why?
The local paper points out that Brean wears a size 4 combat boots and that her sunny outlook cheers her fellow soldiers in Iraq!
- Brean laughs. She knows she's one of the unlikeliest soldiers in the Georgia National Guard's 48th Brigade Combat Team. Little more than a year ago, she was a cheerleader at Dublin High School, a popular senior whose sense of style led one teacher to call her "Miss Lip Gloss."
- So why would an honor student and self-described "girly girl" postpone her higher education to join the National Guard, knowing that she might be sent to war?
- She signed up for the Guard, Brean said, because she prizes her independence and didn't want her parents to foot the entire bill for college. They already had paid for her enrollment at Valdosta State University, where she planned to study athletic training.
I learned another very important fact in this article:
- In all, 9 percent of the U.S. force there is female. While women generally are restricted to noncombat roles, the distinctions have blurred in a war of insurgency and suicide bombings. More than 40 women have died.
Terrible things can happen even within the camp. Brean has told her parents of hearing explosions and small-arms fire at all hours. The concussion from one blast was so powerful it knocked her off her feet.
America is blessed with men and women who volunteer to risk their lives so each of us can live in freedom. I honor each and every last one of them. Today, I thought I would remind everyone of how courageous and patriotic the great women of our country are.
So - the next time the liberal media attempts to make Lyndie Englend the face of the military or the picture of our women in uniform - I submit to you the real women who serve this country.
God Bless the United States Military.
Thank God for women who serve! God bless them and our military.

As my Mom used to say: "Bless her heart". I wish her and all her fellow American warriors well.

God bless women like her...
...I also wonder if she's single...

Isn't it just like the mainstream press to spread the negative instead of the positive side of military personnel? I think we've become used to it. I personnaly love hearing about women like Brean. It shows that most God fearing, law abiding, freedom loving Americans will stand in the breech and be counted to defend their freedom. Thank you, Brean, for your service and God bless America.

I am so tired of hearing about this girl. She is in my Brigade and in the two huge articles the AJC has didecated to her it has shown me nothing awe inspiring about her. She freely admits to falling asleep on duty and in her one trip "outside the wire" she refused to get out of the truck when she got there. There are many female soldiers serving in FOBs outside plush Camp Stryker that should be written about. But I guess the fact that they are not as pretty or simplistic as Brean means they will not even be mentioned.

My name is Ryan Crispin. I am in the 48th and Brean is my fiance. This comment is not towards my bride to be but towards the person named Jeff that has posted this negative comment towards Brean. My best advice towards you is to keep your mouth shut. The AJC chose Brean and not these other girls for a reason. So get your head out of your ass and get over it. You need to get your information straight, since we moved from stryker her mission has changed. Now she goes "outside the wire" almost on a daily basis. So JEFF, you need to get your shit together before you go saying something negative about my fiance and try to make her look bad. Because I don't take people talking about Brean in a negative manner too kindly. And if there is anyone else who has anything negative to say about Brean I give you this advice" Choose you words wisely because you just might just make yourself look bad instead of her." But for everyone else, THANK YOU for supporting us and being so kind towards everyone over here in OIF and OEF.

When I began reading this post, I had the warmest feeling in my heart because of all the kind words not only being said about Brean but about our military as well. I come from a family with deep roots in the armed forces and am proud to say that my brother is dutifully serving in Iraq.
So to hear anyone talk disparagingly about one of our military personnel is quite disappointing. But then to hear it to come from one of your own is exacerbating.
Jeff, how well do you know Brean? You make judgements on her character yet I am sure you have never even talked with her. To accuse someone of being simplistic by reading a few articles about them is being, well, simplistic. AJC had it's choice of military personnel to chronicle and they chose Brean - over my brother, over the other women you mentioned, over other men, and over you! Just be proud that the AJC is portraying our military in a positive manner and be happy for Brean and the example she is setting for other girls rather than trying to bring her down to your level.
Every single soldier, seaman and airman in our military (current and past) deserves every opportunity for the praise and recognition they get! Thank you AJC and the owner of this site for highlighting Brean as she respresents our military by showing us what it is like to walk in their shoes. USA!

Our daughter Marsha Hancock told me about this blog and the negative comments about our future daughter-in-law, Brean. I am (obviously) the Mom of Ryan who also wrote about the negative comments in this matter. (I DO wish he had chosen better language, but can certainly understand why he was so angry.)
Apparently Jeff has a problem with NOT being chosen as someone to be highlighted. I do not believe that Brean CHOSE to be highlighted either. So Jeff just because she was chosen over someone YOU think should have been--well just get over it. Try to look at the positive side of life. We pray daily for Ryan, Brean and all of the troops that are in harms way. That means you too, Jeff. We really pray that the Lord will bless you and that you can get over whatever your problem is and try to be happy that someone was chosen to give a positive side of war and be happy about it.

Brean was the joke of the entire 48th brigade thanks to these articles. Her family can come on and defend her all they want but Jeff is completely right. She was a pathetic excuse for a soldier, who used her size and her demeanor to get out of work and foist it off on others. She is not what people should think of when they imagine women in the military or in any other situation in life that requires strength, responsibility, and skill.

Please stop fighting among yourselves. We are all stuck in this war together whether at home or in the front lines. Have respect for your women soldiers as they have to work twice as hard as the men since there is such discrimination against them. Brean and all the other women soldiers out there deserve applause as they go against traditional female roles and go to war side by side with the men.

Guess Brean's military family and family to be have forgotten about free speech.
If the girl is such a horrible soldier then she will soon get out either die or get married and not re-inlist again. Simple. As for her family to be, gee the sister of Ryan is a dirtbag, scum, and a slut. She has a long history of being a wretch sadly none of her family can see the truth. Ryan can't take critisim and see perhaps Brean is really like that. Thanks Jeff for your post, it makes you think about people if they really deserve the spotlight or not in the media. Eventually all truth is brought out. Let's wait and see.

Here's my advice: Quality uniforms are going to cost a bit more but it's worth the investment. Believe me, it will pay off in the long run.
