in the spirit of your post below saying the victims of katrina were either criminals or welfare cases, i thought i'd demonstrate how disturbing your application of politics to a tragedy is: the reason so many people died unecassarily in 9/11 was because of the continuing flirtation of conservatives with fascism and authoritarianism. so it was that guiliani, who had fair warning of a WTC attack in '93, never turned attention to the real issue: who does what in the case of a terrorist attack. like most conservatives, he gave carte blancheto the fire/policeservices, setting them up for a disaster. the real tragedy is how those firefighters were victims of largesse (in the form of total trust that they'd know what to do) without accountability. and anyone who asked for such accountibility got brushed off as "meddling." of course, that didn't stop guiliani from trying to resurrect his political career by calling attention to his "heroics", even though the people on the ground couldn't do anything, so it's hard to see what he did from behind his desk. yes it's true: conservative infatuation with men in uniform led to deaths on 9/11.
see how offensive it is? you should seek pyschiatric help. your sort of cold-blooded detachment is like a mass murderer.

I agree with the assessment. In 2002 I made a small documentary:

This is a 5 minute video memorial. No burning buildings, no rubble, no explosions, no speeches, no screeches, no Bin Laden, no bodies. Just a remembrance of some people whose lives were cut short through no fault of their own, with poignant candid snapshots from their lives, accompanied by a musical background.
