and in a subsequent post I wrote this;
The problem with FOX is that Ailes has drawn the wrong conclusions from his success. Ailes believes his feel good, happy face, "upbeat" approach to news is
what keeps the fffffffolks coming back. And while a smiling face is certainly a
pleasant change from the dray cups at CNN, it doesn't address the actual reason
behind it's appeal. It is the center right that attracts us. Brit Hume attracts
us.
It is hard to believe that just three months later, the quality of news at Fox has reached its nadir. FOX IS UNWATCHABLE.
First let me say that the finest hour of television is the Brit Hume News Hour (Special Reports) with Fred Barnes, Mort Kondracke, and the level headed left Maura Liason or CeCe Connelly, and Juan Williams (whatevuh!)
But aside from those quixotic dragon slayers, FOX has backed off of real news. We are in the greatest human struggle in world history. Iran is going nuclear, The Israelis are preparing for the final onset of WWIV (WWIII being the cold war)
[of course the Palis don't want a state.....they might have to build
a bridge, or asphalt a street or pick up the garbage] they want the
Jews driven into the sea. The Right to Return is the ruse for Right to
Die and so the Israelis are disengaging on every level. And then there's human trafficking and child sex slavery, the UN hauling in the largest heist of all time (on the backs of the Iraqi poor no less), and the blogosphere is wild with new developments - nothing happens for decades, decades happen in a day.
And where is the network that started it all? Playing host to America's most wanted and coptor shots of car chases.
Was it the pressure of the MSM and world press pointing a mendacious finger in their chest all the time? Was it an infiltration of left leaning news producers? This I do not know.
What I do know is the tactics to avoid real news has become more and more bizarre.
The Advent of the MORBID Celebrity
Having wrung every last drop of blood out of Scott Peterson, Martha Stewart and worst of all MJ (thats right I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaad), FOX has taken to creating Funereal Stars. A story that appeals to the base in the American psyche......young pretty buxom blonde..............and running this nonstory 24/7.
Now look, I am not being cold. I have daughters and would crawl in a hole and never come out should anything like this happen to any of them. But it's not news and it belittles all the other missing, kidnapped, raped, murdered people whose story goes unsung.
All a news producer has to do is go to the blogosphere and news stories are biting them in the ass ---- here, here, here, here, some ridiculous here, here and the mac daddy of the sphere Charles at LGF.
The blogosphere becomes increasingly important when the disseminators of news, news mind you not lefty opinion, abandon there role.
And while nothing the alphabets resort to surprises me, I silently mourn the loss of FOX. So yes, its CSPAN 1,2,3 now and I actually caught a piece of a Bonanza (!) a show I have never seen (have watched no TV or movies since 9/11) and let me tell you that Hoss Cartright was some delicious guy.............those really were the good ole days.
Saying the Yitzkah (sp?) for FOX..............Viva Podcasting, streaming and everything and anything that gets the real story to our hungry humble heads.
